EU AMO POPEYE...EU AMO POPEYE...(click here for english version)

Então você diz: Moço me dá um Atari!

Yesterday, a bad cold fell on me, which forced me to cancel my morning appointments. I will take advantage the free time to write and dedicate the rest of the day FFFF project, if my body allows. Last week I wanted to keep writing about it I started two weeks ago: The importance of popular characters on the consoles. Coincidentally, in the middle of the week, I read  in the blog of, also programmer, Chris Read dissatisfaction note about the game "Popeye". I remember to this day the day we bought "my" Popeye. As we lived in a small town, I and my friend Valdir, who also had an Odyssey, had to travel to get games. It was a fun trip and even ended up in the losing. Anyway, that day, Valdir ended up buying the game Popeye and I bought a game that has become one of my favorites: Super Bee !. Truly I tell you, I wanted to Popeye, Valdir wanted Popeye, so we had to decide who would get this game. And how do we decide? Heads or tails? Even or odd? None of this, in fact the decision was quite simple, the money that I had left was not enough to buy a game. Valdir in turn, had enough to buy a game and I borrow the necessary money for me to buy a game, too. Needless to say who got Popeye. One day, Valdir decided to sell its Odyssey and presented me with this game. The fact is that none of us loved Popeye. Another friend, Marcio, had an Atari 2600 and also had Popeye cartridge for this console. I remember he looked  at our Popeye and smiled happy to have chosen an Atari. The above story, tries to demonstrate, in a way, the appeal of popular characters. When Valdir and I went to buy games, we knew nothing about Popeye and Super Bee games, but the simple fact of one of them contain a famous character, stimulated our desire to purchase. In some instances, however, such a strategy may have the reverse effect. The Last Airbender, why fans of the cartoon (including this man who has surpassed 40), hate the Shyamalan film. Imagine a Hulk color pink, a red-haired Superman, nothing in this film reminds us of the Avatar characters, Sokka is not funny 8 ^ (. Imagine, now, in the early 80s Do you love Popeye, more Alice  the Goon would lovehim. You want to buy a video game, Atari, Intellivision and Odyssey have a game about the famous sailor, you think of buying an Odyssey because it has an incredible alpha-numeric keypad. Plus the Odyssey cartridges come in beautiful acrylic boxes. You ask the seller to wrap the Odyssey and Popeye cartridge, but the seller has the brilliant idea to show you the games in action So you say: Man, gives me an Atari. Popeye to Odyssey, without going into the gameplay question!  demonstrates to the consumer (which is not an absolute truth) an absurd graphical inferiority before the competition. This question has always intrigued me so a few years ago decided to start a project for a new Popeye, for now, only the coded graphical part of the game level one. Maybe one day I can pull that sarcastic smile of the face of Márcio 8 ^ P

I hope, you soon get well, Rafael.

Last week, I was also reading the post from Chris. That brought a smile on my face, because months ago you send me your Popeye. After that, I know that Odyssey/Videopac could show us a much better Popeye.

Maybe one day, with your help Rafael, we play a better Popeye.

And by the way, Super Bee was the better decision! A lovely and unique game, especially your PLUS version!

Hi Tom, sorry I really had to spent my day on the bed yesterday, today I woke up better. Yes, I love Super Bee, it´s a kind of well done game. But when I bought it, I became disapointed because I wanted Popeye, but when I played it I just loved it. I think Super Bee was one of the most played game by me and my friends back in the day. We used to play on each weekend back in the days, our sessions always start with Super Bee after we play Timelord, Killer Bees, Smitreens, Showdown in 2010 AD and Spin Out. When I was alone I think the most played game was Turtles. Never Popeye 8^D Good times 8^)
